Literary Circle Reads Bluegrass Nominees in 2015
Literary Circle is enjoying two picks from the Kentucky Bluegrass Nominees for 2015. The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey is a bestseller that will be a movie in 2016. It deals with an alien invasion that takes place in waves, killing all but the strongest. Sounds crazy, but the book has all the good stuff like humor, love and lots of intrigue. Alternating points of view keep you on the edge of your seat as you wonder what is lurking around the next corner. Is it a human or an alien who is indistinguishable from a human? We all agreed that this will be the next Divergent and The Hunger Games when word gets out.
Alternately, our 2nd lunch group has finished The 5th Wave and is now reading If You Find Me by Emily Murdoch. This has been an intriguing and actually uplifting read for us. The story focuses on 15 year old Carey and her younger sister who have been hidden deep in a national forest by their mentally ill and meth-addicted mother. The mother comes and goes leaving them to fend for themselves. The heart of the story is when they are found and taken back to their father who has been searching for them all these years. It reads like a fairy tale as they must learn to live in a modern world. Will they be able to trust their father's love after being brainwashed? What about Carey's younger sister who hasn't spoken a word in over a year? It is really a lovely read as these girls deal with the past, let go of secrets and learn to open themselves up to love and happiness.
The library has lots of copies of both books, so please stop by and grab one. And it's never to late to join Literary Circle and be involved in our next great read!
